Would you believe the candy-colored Katy Perry was originally Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson? She released gospel songs in a Christian album when she was sixteen.
The famous pop star was born Onika Tanya Maraj. Nicki was short for Onika.
Hannah Montana was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, and her nickname “Smiley” was shortened to Miley. Now that she’s all controversial, “Destiny Hope” probably doesn’t fit her too well anymore.
Was Ne-Yo a Matrix fan? His stage name was inspired by the movie’s hero, Neo. Originally, he was born Shaffer Chimere Smith.
Here’s a stretch: Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. She says that she’s “a perpetually tortured artist. That’s why I changed my name. I can’t be her in public. She would be a mess.”

This singing sensation was named Elizabeth Woolridge Grant at birth, but she never really felt like it. “It just never personally spoke to me. For me, it just didn’t really feel like it was mine,” she says.
Yet another musical genius changed her original name. Born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, Lorde thought she should feed her fancy of royals and aristocrats. “To make Lord more feminine, I just put an ‘e’ on the end! Some people think it’s religious, but it’s not,” she explains.
Because he didn’t want to be limited to Spanish and Latin, Bruno changed his name from Peter Gene Hernandez to his old childhood nickname.
Gender ambiguity was the reason he changed his name from Eric Marlon Bishop to Jamie Foxx.
