Game of Thrones
There’s so much more to the hit show than meets the eye.
Dire Wolves were real
The Dire Wolves in the show are actual animals, but they are digitally enhanced to look bigger than they are. Interestingly, these big dogs actually used to exist, growing to enormous sizes until they became extinct.
The iconic horse heart
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen didn’t actually eat a horse heart while filming. The prop was made from some sort of jam, sugar, dried pasta, and fake blood. “It was disgusting! They promised me that it would taste similar to a gummy bear and it definitely didn’t,” says,Emilia.
The Emmy award-winning intro
To stand out from all the other intros out there, the designers came up with the concept of a “world inside a sphere”, with cogs that interlock to represent family struggles for power and domination.
Fantasy based on reality
George R.R. Martin says that fiction “has to have a truth at the core of it.” He says that “it’s still ultimately about the human heart in conflict with itself or it’s not worth reading.” He also writes a lot of violence in his books because he wants to prove that the most horrifying fears out there aren’t monsters but humans. There’s nothing more terrifying than what’s within ourselves.
Game of Thrones baby names
Khaleesi and Arya are the most popular baby names in the States.
Khaleesi is so popular that it even has a sea slug named after it called the “Tritonia khaleesi”. This is an ode to its similarities with Daenerys Targaryen’s braided hair.
Sex over violence
George R.R. Martin puts it perfectly: “Ultimately, in the history of the world, penises entering vaginas have given a lot of people a lot of pleasure; axes entering skulls, well, not so much.”
Porn stars in Game of Thrones
Jessica Jenson, Samantha Bentley, Aeryn Walker, and Sibel Kekilli are only some of the porn stars cast on Game of Thrones. With that much nudity on the show, why wouldn’t they be cast?
